A German concrete shelter with a trench connected to it.
View at one of the German trenches, with wooden gangways.
During the excavation the remains of several small German shelters (Ger: Understand) constructed with concrete blocks were discovered. The walls and floors were covered with wood. These shelters were connected to each other with trenches, of which only the wooden gangways are preserved. There were also numerous shell holes. Several kinds of ammunition were found, among others a dump of grenades. We also found the rusted remains of the metre gauge railways. Some medieval and post-mediaeval finds were also discovered here.
